Benefits and Testimonials

The Puppet Company are often booked by schools for performances. We thought we'd list some of the benefits which our shows can offer.

The Puppet Company is committed to producing original work. Our shows are written with a childlike sensitivity and consequently creates an opportunity to be accessed by everyone. Children, adults, the academically challenged and individuals with learning or physical difficulties. Accessibility is our greatest asset, and we specifically create shows thats are based on a sensory experience. Puppets, colours, music, rhyme, song, physicality and mood are essential elements of this process.

The cross curricular benefits are......

*English/ Literacy/ Creative Writing/ Story Telling/ Review Writing

*Science/ Light/ Shadow

*Art and Design/ Puppetry/ Making/ Recycling

*Music/ Song/ Vocal Technique/ Speaking and Listening

*History/ Geography/ Citizenship/ Sense of Place

Many schools take on the themes and ideas from a performance and carry it long into the classroom. After returning to a school sometime after a show we are often confronted by huge displays depicting children's ideas, pictures and alternative endings (some of which are so good - we might have to steal them for future shows).

We feel very privileged to be able to inspire both pupils and adults alike and long may it continue.

Bedtime and Badtime Stories

We had the good sense to book a performance of ‘Bedtime and Badtime Stories’ during our Book Week in November 2007. What an excellent decision that turned out to be!

The performance had the children spellbound from the first note of live music to the final bow of the superbly made puppets. Even the youngest children were enthralled by the tales of the ‘naughty’ children and the fates that befell them. It is not often that you come across a performance that successfully engages an audience of such a wide age range. The stories all had a moral which we were able to discuss with the children who then went on to write their own stories with a moral in the classroom.

One class has had the opportunity to make their own puppets under the expert guidance of Joe Long. They have also written their own stories and scripts for their puppets which they will be able to perform to an audience. The educational benefits have been invaluable and ongoing making the performance excellent value for money from a school budget perspective.

This is an excellent way to introduce a cross curricular project into the classroom.

  • Puppet making
  • Story writing
  • Critical review writing
  • Speaking and listening
  • Drama and role play
  • Historical stories

I would have no hesitation in booking a future production staged by The Puppet Company due to the rich, educational experience I know they would provide for my children.
